On February 23, 2021, EPOS and Acast launched a new branded podcast called Powered by Audio, hosted by two-time Tony-winning producer and creator of Facebook Live Randi Zuckerberg and sound designed by Jeff Schmidt, whose podcasts have racked up more than 100 million downloads, with 13 of them hitting the top spot on Apple Podcasts charts — including Dr. Death, Blood Ties, and The Apology Line.
Zuckerberg, who is entering the branded podcast space for the first time, explores with her guests how audio shapes our experience and how pioneers are creating the sound of the future. In a recent episode about sound and storytelling, Zuckerberg speaks with George the Poet and Pascal Garneau, sound effects editor for shows like The Mandalorian and Moana. The podcast’s topics—along with the insight of each guest—acts as the perfect marketing tool for EPOS, a company that provides high-end audio solutions specifically designed for enterprise and gaming.
The podcast is not just making impact for the partnership between Acast and EPOS, it is also impacting representation in the branded and technology podcast space. As of last year, still only about 21% of the top-charting shows are hosted by women and it is no secret that women’s representation in the tech industry as a whole is still too low (Entelo reports that only about 19% of women are in entry level and mid-level roles in the tech industry and only 16% at the senior level). This makes Zuckerberg’s presence in the technology podcast space all the more notable.
Zuckerberg, also known for her weekly business talk radio show on SiriusXM, is thrilled to be taking this first step into branded podcasts along with this deep dive into the world of sound. Her interviews help audiences see how much audio impacts us and the thoughtful creation behind every day sounds. In episode one, she expresses to guest Josh Mobley, “I am never going to take for granted the amazing artistry behind user interface sounds again.” Zuckerberg’s genuine curiosity and passion coupled with Schmidt’s impeccable sound design creates immersive episodes that have already captured audiences’ interest, with one reviewer stating, “Powered by Audio has a really refreshing and unique angle on how audio affects our day-to-day and future. Super thought provoking.”
A record number of people have begun listening to non-music audio in the last year since the start of the pandemic and more people want to know why that is. Powered by Audio responds directly to this burgeoning interest regarding the why, while also making EPOS a thought leader in the audio space.
